To the best of our knowledge, environmental pollution and degradation is one of currently burning issues, because it threatens diverse biology, climate change, and several consequences that human beings have to suffer. In this context, numerous environment-related plans have been adopted towards a greener and healthier future, in which the most outstanding is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations.

Do you know why various countries follow the SDGs? Let’s figure it out with us!

In the pursuit of global significance, the SDGs include 17 goals set by the United Nations aimed at enhancing various aspects such as life quality improvement, equality promotion, poverty eradication, environment protection, and peace and prosperity guarantee for all by 2030. To achieve the above goals, Green Building emerges as an effective solution, having a significant effect on numerous aspects of the problem, which:

  • Contribute to the third goal - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages by improving air quality and illumination for buildings.

  • Contribute to the 6th goal - Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by reducing outside and inside water consumption, as well as measuring water usage at the building level.

  • Contribute to the 7th goal - Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by reducing carbon emissions and optimizing energy efficiency in buildings.

  • Contribute to the 8th goal - Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all by applying green practices, which promote well-being and productivity for staff, while strengthening the relationship between customers and sustainability-minded stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the 9th goal - Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation by combining green infrastructure into buildings, landscapes, and interconnected spaces.

  • Contribute to the 11th goal - Reduce inequality within and among countries by emphasizing human experience and promoting series of projects to create spaces that not only decrease carbon and energy emissions, water and waste use but also improve health and happiness for those who live, work, learn and enjoy in these buildings, cities, and communities on a daily basis.

  • Contribute to the 12th goal - Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns by promoting responsible material production and consumption.

  • Contribute to the 13th goal - Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, to strengthen the function that buildings and communities will renew and maintain health as well as the energy of all lives in a generation.

  • Contribute to the 15th goal - Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss by ensuring that the project site is safe for human activities and respect special conditions of surrounding areas.

  • Contribute to the 17th goal - Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development by promoting a community-based approach and engagement.

In a nutshell, green building has a significant contribution to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, the GS Community Project officially introduces the series [GREEN BUILDING AND SDGs] to help all gain a deeper insight into green building's role towards a greener and more sustainable future. Please wait for our next posts about this!
